How to paint storm windows

When I painted the exterior of my house, I also took care of the aluminum storm windows. As much as I would love to get rid of them and bask in the beauty of exposed windows, the reality is that we need them since our house has 45 year old single-pane windows. For the sake of our comfort, my wallet, and the health of our windows, we need them to be protected. So, instead of complaining about them, I made them prettier.NewHouseStormWindowsNot the best photo, but you get the idea. Aluminum storm windows. I have nine of them.Benmoore28I’d love to get rid of them and replace the windows, but that’s beyond my small budget.NewHouseStormWindow3In the meantime, I almost injured myself removing and carrying this one. It is extremely heavy. I am not kidding. Luckily, my daughter was there to help me get it back on. NewHouseStormWindows2The back of the house before I removed and painted the aluminum storm windows.BenMoore27Aluminum is easy to paint, however, it is important to clean it well. I used a sponge and soapy water. I completely covered the glass and screen with newspaper and masking tape. Next, I primed and painted the storm windows using the same paint I used for the rest of the house. Of course, you can also use a spray paint. But don’t forget to prime first.BenMoore16So much better, don’t you think? Now the storm windows blend in with the white trim.homeright6
