10 Ideal Upgrade Ideas for Your Bedroom

Happy Friday, everyone! I have a special treat for you today. Alice from Yorkshire Linen is here with some great tips on how to upgrade your bedroom with just a few easy steps. This is perfect timing since I’m currently working on my master bedroom and Alice brought some wonderful ideas.

When we moved to our current home, my bedroom was the last thing on my to-do-list. The kids’ rooms and the rest of the house were my priority. Needless to say, the room is not very inviting. The comforter is ancient, the TV cabinet is missing a door, no art work, lack of storage, etc. Good news, though, new paint color went up last week, and I’m loving it.  I guess that’s a good start.

I am Alice and this is my blog. I am so excited to be doing this guest post today. Hope you all have a good time reading it & would love it if you hop to my blog and see some of my work. Enjoy!

Switch up Storage
It is amazing how much junk accumulates in the bedroom! Old clothes
waiting for jumble sales or charity collectors, small electronics in
need of batteries – the list goes on! Invest in a decent storage system
for your bedroom: wardrobe, chest of drawers and some other ‘hidden’
storage options such as underbed boxes, floating shelves high above the
wardrobe and small, but spacious bedside cabinets, so that you have
somewhere to keep everything. Anything that does not belong in the
bedroom should be ruthlessly evicted after, say, three months or so: if
no-one has missed it or asked for it in that time, it is most likely
forgotten or outgrown! Decluttering is a boring job, but a necessary one
and it can have the affect of opening out a bedroom, creating the
illusion of much more space.

Dazzling Duvet Covers
A good bedding set is a décor statement in its own right, adding a much
needed splash of colour and comfort, even as it perpetuates and enhances
a colour scheme or décor theme.

Choose your bedding carefully, opting for an attractive duvet cover that harmonises with your chosen décor scheme.I would say that a colourful, attractive and neat duvet cover is sure to give any bedroom an instant boost of welcome. I have a thing for duvets at Yorkshire Linen because they are not pricey and have a huge variety.

Headboard of Class
Always, where possible install a headboard! Even if your bedroom is
tiny, you can create a wonderful effect by painting a headboard onto the
wall (or even wall-mounting a padded and quilted board against which
you can lean while reading or working in bed!) A headboard, or headboard
effect adds importance to the bed, giving it a certain gravitas and
making it the clear centre of the room and turning it into a signature
piece.

To Carpet or Not to Rug?
The appearance and feel of a room can be transformed by relatively
simply additions and deductions. A bare floor is warmed and softened by a
rug or carpet, while an over-fussy and ornate room can be calmed down
be reverting to a plain wood floor. Perhaps even work it seasonally,
rolling the rug up in summer and popping it down for the colder months?

Paper over the Furniture!
Complete your décor theme with judicious touches! Carefully cutting
panels of wallpaper and applying them to wardrobe doors or dresser
fronts can really pull the bedroom’s décor together. It will also make
it seem as though you have spent a fortune on buying matching furniture
too!

Sweat the Small Stuff
If you want new furniture but cannot afford it why not change the
fittings on your existing furniture? You can find elaborate old handles
and knobs very cheaply at auctions, salvage yards and car boot sales. It
will take a few minutes to swap over generic and boring handles for new
and unusual ones, and this can refresh tired old furniture in a
remarkable way.

Dress up Windows
Window treatments involve more than just hanging curtains: there are nets, valances, pelmets and tie-backs to consider too! Curtains canenhance a beautiful view or hide an ugly one, so dress your windows with the outside world in mind.

Light up Your Life
With bedroom lighting, be prepared to install several lights and lamps.
In this way, you can avoid the harsh, operating room feel engendered by a
single overhead bulb. Instead, opt for soft layered lighting all around
the room, which allows for everything from romantic interludes to
bright light for cleaning and tidying! Ceiling lights are on sale on Value Lights and they can totally help you to find cute options for the perfect lighting in bedroom.

Pillow Your Fancies
You will be amazed at how much is added to a bed with the addition of a
couple of pairs of extra pillows or decorative cushions. In fact, the
simple addition of a pair of pillows, suitably bedecked in fancy pillow
cases, adds a degree of welcome, comfort and even luxury, while costing
very little.
