5 Great Uses for Dawn

Dawn is pretty amazing, I must say. It’s great for so many things like washing dishes, cleaning showers, cars, windows, etc. But today I discovered that Dawn kills flees. My two little pooches (Teddy & Billy) have fleas. I am not surprised; summer, heat, tall grass, lots of fur.

Since I don’t like using harsh chemicals on them (such as flea shampoos), I gave Dawn a try. I was pleasantly surprised to see the little bugs float in the water. Apparently, the blue dye in Dawn kills the fleas on contact. I was so happy to nip this problem in the butt.

All you have to do is prepare a regular dog bath, but use Dawn instead of shampoo for the lather. Now, some people (mainly dog groomers) argue that Dawn irritates the dog’s skin and could make things worse. Since this was my first time using Dawn on my dogs, I can’t say for sure. I wouldn’t use it every week, but if my dogs don’t exhibit any problems, I will use it once or twice a month if I see more fleas.

Here are additional uses for Dawn:

• I use Dawn for cleaning my bathtub. Here is what I do. I take a spray bottle and fill it halfway with white vinegar. I then heat it in the microwave and fill the rest of the way with blue Dawn. Shake it and spray on your tub and shower walls. Allow to sit for a few minutes and rinse away. It will get rid of all the stuff that builds up in your shower or tub.

• I haven’t bought Windex in years. Who needs it if you can make your own window cleaner? Mix four drops of Dawn in one gallon of water. Pour the mixture in a spray bottle and clean your windows.

• When we moved into our current house, all doors, with the exception of one, were squeaking terribly. Instead of using WD-40, which is full of chemicals and smells bad, I lubricated the hinges with Dawn. No more squeaks.

• I wash my car with Dawn. No need to buy expensive car shampoos. Just one tsp of Dawn mixed with one gallon of water gets the grease and dust off your car.

I bet there are tons more uses for Dawn and I’d love to hear about them. What do you use Dawn for? Have you used Dawn on your dog? If so, has your dog had any problems?

Didn’t know about the window cleaner– now I don’t have to buy that either!

I keep a bottle of Dawn in the laundry room and use it as a pretreated. Its great for the grimy mystery stains that show up on hubby’s pants. I have used Dawn in similar proportions to what you use for window cleaning, in a bucket with a gas station style sponge and squeegee for my exterior windows. Be careful about using it on your car though Dawn will slowly dissolve your cars wax.
