My decorating mantra has always been “less is more.” The older I get, the more I enjoy neutral colors with minimal decor. I love the white & wood combo. I used to think dark wood floors were gorgeous, but these days, I prefer them unstained. Unstained floors brighten up the house and make it seem larger, less formal. Some may find my color scheme boring, which consists mainly of black, white, and natural hues, but I’m not afraid of a little white space. To me it’s all about letting spaces breathe. But I do like a pop of color here and there.
I guess if I had to describe my style it would be cozy yet simple. In my opinion, simple doesn’t necessarily translate into an all-white room. A pop of color can make all the difference in terms of coziness. Like this ocean painting I did a while back.
Or the bright red cushions on the patio.
Our home is still a work in progress. In the two years that I’ve owned it I was able to do a lot but I still have lots of new projects in mind. Although our home is small (1050 sq ft), it seems so airy, open, spacious and relaxing, yet warm and comfortable at the same time.
Stuff doesn’t matter. It creates stress, suffocates us, and gets a hold on us. My priority is simple; to keep the home a place of love and contentment.
