As I have mentioned in one of my previous blogs, my son is obsessed with Minecraft. He has a Minecraft shirt (last year’s Christmas present), a Minecraft poster (also a present from last year), of course, the Minecraft game, and homemade Minecraft wall art. He is also learning Java (no, it’s nothing coffee related, but rather a programming language that will help him create his “own Minecraft game”- someday).
Since I recognize his love for Minecraft, I decided to add to his collection of Creepers and Zombies. Last night, I finished a pair of DIY Minecraft shoes which will be one of his Christmas presents (my son doesn’t read my blog, so it’s o.k. to post it here). Should you have a Minecrafter in the house, try this fun and fairly simple project.
Start with a blank canvas.
You can use permanent markers or fabric markers
Using a popsicle stick, draw lines to create a grid
Like this.
I colored the back of the shoes first. I didn’t follow a color pattern for my squares.
Next, I drew the Creeper.
Total cost: $15

June 19, 2014Hi Valerie! The colors are holding up really well but I haven’t washed them yet. I am sure you can apply some kind of fabric paint/sharpie sealer to protect the colors.

August 21, 2014Hi Julie, thanks for stopping by. Glad you like the Minecraft shoes. It took about 2 hours to do one pair (I also did one for a friend). To speed up the process you could draw the lines for them and they can color in the squares. Have fun with it!
