DIY Modern Entryway Table

This modern entryway table is a quick and inexpensive project almost anyone can do. If you have a drill and screws, you can do it. In one day.

Anna Elyce Smith Creating modern, livable, lovable homes for budgets big + small. Denver, CO + beyond.

This is what I hoped to accomplish. I envisioned a clean, simple entryway table that’s functional  and modern. (via pinterest)

I spent $21 on the boards. Three 1 x 2’s  and three 1 x 4’s. Home Depot cut the larger pieces for me. At home, I cut the smaller pieces to make two rectangles.

I drilled pilot holes and used wood glue. Pilot holes are necessary since this type of wood splinters easily. Long pieces are 33 inches, short pieces are 9 inches long.

Next, I glued together the pieces for the top. Length: 39 inches.

After I sanded and smoothed the pieces with 80 grit sand paper, I painted the legs a semi gloss black (leftover paint).

I flipped the top upside down and attached the rectangles with three screws.

Next, I attached the two horizontal pieces to the bottom of the table. Same process: pilot holes, glue,  2 inch screws. The two long pieces are 35 inches.

I sealed the top with two coats of General Finishes Satin Polyacrylic. This poly is fast drying, non-yellowing, and water based.

I like the dark and natural wood color contrast.

You always impressed me! I always wondered how to make this kind of table which is perfect in our living room. Thanks for sharing this tutorial. I hope one day I will learn how to drill and cut woods lol

Ahh thanks, Em. This table really is easy to make. Home Depot or Lowe’s can cut the wood for you. All you need is a drill and screws. You can do it!

I love this table and it’s exactly the size that I’m looking for. Are you able to lose the length of the cuts you made and what length board did you use?

Anna, my table legs are 33 inches high and the top is 39 inches long.

Beautiful design :), I love it! I had a question, is it pretty sturdy/doesn’t wobble with the 1×2 & 1×4’s? Can it hold a decent amount of weight?

Thank you. It’s pretty sturdy, however, I wouldn’t put on anything too heavy.

Can you add all the measurements of the wood pieces and the amount that you used, for example how long were the pieces of wood that were used to make the rectangles for the legs? I want to make this table but I don’t have a saw at home so I have to go to home depot and ask them to cut all the pieces of wood for me. Thank you!

Nereyda, I added the measurements. It’s been a few years since I built this table, but I think I used pine boards @ 8ft. Home Depot will cut all the pieces for you. Thank you for reading and I hope this helps.
