If you’re in your 40s, consider yourself in your prime.  At 46, I feel more comfortable in my own skin and I care less about what people think of me than I did when I was in my 20s.

But some things in your 40s aren’t great. For example, we don’t have the same hair we had at 20.  As we age, our hair is affected by several things —  dryness, dullness, and thinning. Dyeing, blow-drying, and styling make things worse.

In our 40s we may be more likely to turn to hair color as a way to camouflage gray hair. It’s the only reason I get highlights. The gap between coloring our hair gets shorter and shorter and we find ourselves exposing our hair to chemical processes that strip our locks of their natural luster and splendor.

So, while there may not be a time machine for our hair, here’s how the right products and styling tips can make our mane look years younger.

If you’re trying to combat the signs of aging, you’ll love the Living Proof Timeless Collection.  Available only at Ulta Beauty, this collection includes a pre-shampoo treatment, shampoo, conditioner and plumping mousse.  The Living Proof Timeless Collection is sulfate-free, silicone-free and formulated specifically for color-treated hair.

When hair starts to thin, it also loses its shape and sticks to the scalp. Just a few extra steps in my hair care routine can change this. When styling, I use a very small amount of plumping mousse at my roots for some volume. I also flip my hair upside down when I blow dry. This trick always works for me.

I have fine hair that’s frizz prone, and after using these products for a week I have noticed a difference in how my hair feels. It styles better, shines more and the highlights look brighter. These products have improved the overall quality of my hair.  The conditioner leaves my hair super soft and smelling great. It’s very hydrating yet lightweight, never weighing my hair down. A small amount goes a long way.

One of the best things about being a blogger is I get to try many innovative products. I always thought “shampoo is shampoo.” How big a difference can there really be between products? I gladly admit I was wrong.

I am happy with my soft, shiny, frizz free tresses. It’s similar to what I had in my 20s.
