I recently made some changes to our small guest room. You can read about it here. I needed something for the wall above the bed so I decided to make this simple and inexpensive art ledge.
The idea of an art ledge appealed to me because you can switch out art and photos as often as you like without leaving holes in the wall.
I only needed two boards. I chose a 1 x 4 and 1 x 2 which I had Home Depot cut in half.
Next, I sanded the edges and secured the boards with wood glue, nails and screws. I also painted the ledge white. Ana White has a great tutorial for these art ledges.
I pre-drilled two holes to the back board of the ledge, held the ledge against the wall and marked the two holes. Two EZ Anchors were put into the wall for extra support. These anchors can hold over 50 pounds and I didn’t have to worry about finding the studs. My final step was to screw the ledge into the anchors.
This is a simple project that can be done in an afternoon. My total cost was under $10.
