My lip balm is seriously something I can’t live without. My lips will dry out and it bothers me to no end. I have a lip balm (or two) in my purse, my car, my night stand, my kitchen, and sometimes in my pocket.
I’ve always wanted to make homemade lip balm, and honestly, I don’t understand why I waited this long. I guess I figured making lip balm was some sort of complex science that requires unusual equipment and ingredients. Turns out homemade lip balm is easy, quick, and inexpensive. I made mine using just three ingredients: Beeswax, coconut oil and essential oil. Here’s how I did it.
First, I melted one tablespoon of grated beeswax with one tablespoon of coconut oil in the microwave for around 30 seconds or so.
Next, I added three to four drops of essential oils. It’s so fun making these because each lip balm can have a different scent. I added Nature’s Truth® Peppermint Essential Oil and Nature’s Truth® Happiness Essential Oil to my mixtures.
Single oils such as Peppermint and Lavender have been my go-to essential oils for years. I use them often in DIY air fresheners (all you need is essential oil, distilled water, and a spray bottle), household cleaners, face scrubs; in my baths and for stinky running shoes.
Here’s a great tip, especially for the hot summer months. Just add a few drops of essential oil on a cotton ball or two, and stick them in your shoes overnight. By morning, they will be much less offensive.
Nature’s Truth® Happiness Essential Oil is my new favorite. This blended oil has a sweet and fruity scent which includes Cedarwood Oil, Lemon Oil, Grapefruit Oil, Tangerine Oil and Jasmine Absolute Oil. It’s hard to describe how wonderful this scent is. It’s “uplifting” and “energizing” . If you love essential oils as much as I do, you need to try Nature’s Truth® Happiness. The name alone is wonderful: Happiness™.
Once you’ve added the essential oils, pour the mixture into lip balm containers or tubes. This must be done quickly since the mixture will start to harden right away.
As you can see, making your own lip balm is very easy. The great thing is you can customize your lip balms by adding a different essential oil to each container or tube.
I found the Nature’s Truth® Essential Oils in the vitamin aisle at Walgreens. Their selection is quite impressive. I wish I could have all of their oils. Next time I’ll try Nature’s Truth® Peace and Balance Essential Oils and their recently launched collection of Essential Oil Roll-Ons, which feature their most popular essential oils pre-blended in a base of sunflower seed oil in convenient roll-on bottles. This makes it easier than ever to apply oils topically on-the-go.
Nature’s Truth® Essential Oils are derived from 100% pure plant sources, and are paraben-free and gluten-free.
I hope you guys try this lip balm and love it as much as I do. This homemade lip balm actually sinks into your lips without leaving a slick barrier. Also, are you a fan of essential oils? What’s your favorite scent and how do you use it?
