On April 15, my daughter Christy, turned 21. I don’t exactly consider my job as a parent completed, but at least I feel that she has managed to learn most of what she needs to know to have a chance at a healthy, happy and productive life.
Since Christy was able to come home from college, we celebrated her birthday with cake, drinks, and gifts.
Here are some of the gifts I picked for her. These lovely foil-pressed Minted pieces will look great in her new apartment. Her zodiac sign is Aries, and this water color print is simple and so fun.
Christy will be interning in New York this summer, so I thought a map of New York will be a great reminder of this exciting time in her life. I love all the gold against the white background and frame. An independent artist hand-presses the foil. It truly is a work of art.
And of course, … iloveyouthatisall… this is my heart talking through a piece of art. Although I try to practice acceptance, I struggle with time ticking away. Seriously, how have 21 years passed since I gave birth to this girl? The thought and reality of my children becoming adults, the thought of myself becoming an old woman, and then one day…. not being… is not easy to accept. I guess I just have to take it one day at the time.
Happy 21st Birthday, Christy! You have so much to offer. I’m very proud to be your mom.
