Today is a special day for my daughter Christy – it’s her 18th birthday. It seems that just seconds ago she was this cute little bug who always wanted to hold my hand when we were out and about. She has grown up to be an amazing young woman, with her own unique talent, humor, and wisdom. She has an incredible gift for composing the most raw and honest lyrics. She is strong, tough, and sometimes even fearless.
So where does that leave me as a mom now that she is legal in the eyes of the law?
I have already learned from her older sister that I cannot pick their lives, but I can be there to help pick up the pieces. I support when I can; I can be the ear when needed.
I will never stop worrying and I will never stop being there when they call for help. After all, I ‘signed up’ to be a mom FOREVER.
