Last week, I was at Sam’s Club perusing through the fresh produce section when I came across some really beautiful  mushrooms. I love mushrooms; especially sauteed mushrooms with onions.

Since mushrooms are a favorite of mine, I jumped at the opportunity to highlight Sam’s Club’s Healthy Living Made Simple magazine’s superfood of the month, MUSHROOMS.

Sam's Club

Sam’s Club provides members with access to this online magazine that is full of articles on healthy living and nutrition. Like this article that talks about foods that are good for your bones. Especially important for us ladies.

Mushrooms are on my grocery list pretty much all the time and I include them in as many recipes as possible. At home I took out the produce and decided to make mushroom zucchini veggie burgers. I made a bunch a froze some for leftovers.

I first made these burgers a couple of years ago when my daughter decided to become a vegetarian for a total of eight months. We loved them so much and still make them today, although we aren’t vegetarians. They are so good, we eat them without a bun. We love pairing the patties with baked beans.

The ingredients for the veggie burgers are so simple and healthy.

Because we eat lots of fruits and veggies, having a Sam’s Club membership is great for us. I can buy fruit in bulk, chop it up, and freeze it for our daily smoothies. I do the same with bags of spinach and kale. I like to add them to smoothies and feed my picky eater greens in a way he likes. I also freeze chia seeds, nuts, and flax seeds. All great stuff you can buy in bulk at Sam’s Club.

Sam's Club

When your fridge and pantry are stocked with essentials like fresh produce, lean meats, fish, beans, rice, and other healthy items, cooking your own meals really doesn’t take much time and effort at all. The best part about cooking at home; you know what’s in your meal and you save money.

Sam's Club

In addition to having a great grocery selection,  Sam’s Club is the health and wellness destination for everything you and your family need. Shopping at Sam’s Club is very convenient. You can get your prescriptions filled, find over-the-counter medicines, shop contact lenses and designer frames, and on the second Saturday of every month, members can get a free health screening! The next one is scheduled for 10/8/2016, but check with your local Sam’s Club to make sure they offer this before heading out.

outdoors

Eating healthy and staying physically active is important to us. We don’t see it as a chore or punishment. Instead, we see it as a blessing and are grateful  for the good health and energy this lifestyle provides us with. This past weekend, the weather in Nashville was absolutely perfect. The end of summer/beginning of fall is my favorite time of the year and I cannot get enough of the outdoors. I could walk for hours.  During this time of the year, even mowing the lawn is fun.
