This past weekend, my daughter, Christy, was home from college. Since we both love coffee and pumpkin so much, I decided to change things up a bit and treat us to a pumpkin spice latte. Homemade, that is. You may be shocked to hear this, but I’ve never tried a PSL from Starbucks. Yep, it’s true. People tell me it’s very good but also very sweet. I read that up until this year, there was no sign of any real pumpkin in their Pumpkin Spice Latte… just a bunch of food coloring, preservatives, fat, sugar, and more sugar. But don’t be fooled, sugar is still the main ingredient of this drink. It should still be considered a treat. Since I don’t like my coffee full of sugar and chemicals, I decided to make my own pumpkin spice latte. I couldn’t find one “perfect” recipe on Pinterest so I decided to blend several together. Here’s what I came up with .
Pumpkin Spice Latte
Ingredients:
1 cup milk ( I used almond milk)
3 tbsp pure pumpkin puree
2 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp vanilla
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1/2 cup coffee
sprinkle of cinnamon
Directions:
In a saucepan cook milk, sugar and pumpkin. Add vanilla and pumpkin pie spice. Cool off for a few minutes before mixing it in the blender for 20 seconds. Pour coffee in a large mug and add the milk mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
This latte is yummy, better for you, and so easy to make. If you’re like me and don’t want to shell out $6 for a cup of chemicals, make your own pumpkin spice latte.
