Sheer Coverage & Dewy Finish

The older I get the more I dislike applying make up… especially foundation. Most days I only use concealer, powder and a little mascara. However, once in a while I need more coverage and no matter what foundation I try, the result is dry, flaky, cakey looking skin.

I did some research – and maybe most of you already know this – adding oil to your foundation will make it apply more easily and evenly. I saw this YouTube video by make up artist Wayne Goss ( I love his videos).

His tip is great, especially for mature and dry skin. In my opinion, once you hit 30, halfway throughout the day foundation starts to look cakey and dry. We’ve all been there. When you use oil, your foundation sticks better to your skin. It gives your skin a more flawless and natural look. If you want to glow you have to try this. I promise it will NOT make your skin oily.

So what you’re going to do, is take 1 or 2 pumps of your favorite foundation and add just one drop of oil. I used almond oil but you can use argan oil, primrose oil, jojoba oil or any oil that works great for your skin type. You want to use a light oil, though, – olive oil is probably too heavy.

Once you apply it to your skin, let it sink in and blot with a tissue if you see any excess oil. This will lift the excess oil off the skin but leave all the pigment on the skin. Now all you have to do is set with powder and you’re ready to glow.

Apparently a lot of make up artists use this technique on their models.

I love that I get a more sheer coverage and dewy finish. Try this out and let me know if this worked for you.

I didn’t know about the oil for foundation! I should try that! Good thing I’m more on combination, not oily skin type! Thanks for sharing, Sabine! 🙂

I thought I was the only one who didn’t know about adding the oil. It works so well for my skin. You should try it.
