Should I be an extra on “Nashville” show?

ABC Television Series "Nashville"

ABC Television Series “Nashville”

ABC Television Series “Nashville” is casting extras almost every week in Nashville. I’m really tempted to apply because I’ve always wanted to see how a real television set or movie set operates. The pay is $64 for 8 hours plus overtime paid after eight hours. The agency casting “Nashville” extras is looking for all types. But of course the need for a particular scene dictates precisely what kinds of extras they will cast. Sometimes they need people with fancy cars, some scenes ask for females between 30 and 50, etc.

I already signed up with the agency that hires extras for “Nashville” but I’m a little worried that working as an extra will include a lot of “sitting around doing nothing.” Some of the scenes go late into the night and I’m not sure if it’s worth the money or the experience.

I enjoy watching “Nashville” (mainly for the great music) and because it’s always fun to recognize landmarks and areas of Nashville on TV.

Do you have any experience working as an extra? If so, was it a pleasant and worthwhile experience?

I had a couple friends who were extras for random things and said it was exactly as you described… whole lotta waiting around with just a few chunks of action. But i would still just do it for fun if it was for Nashville!
