Upcycled Pillow Covers

I recently found out about ZeroLandfill and I am excited to write about. ZeroLandfill is an upcycling program that supports the supply needs of local artists and educators while reducing pressure on local landfill capacity. The pounds of materials diverted from the landfill have a second life in the community. Materials are not recycled, but rather upcycled.

Since 2006,  ZeroLandfill has partnered with the architectural and interior design community in diverting from local landfills and re-purposing back into the community over 1 million pounds of  materials that hold value for other audiences.  ZeroLandfill has chapters in a number of cities across the country.

Materials Commonly Found at ZeroLandfill project sites

Carpet Tiles and Books

Paint Decks and Laminate Chips

Upholstery Swatches and Memos

Vinyl and Rubber Flooring Samples

Brick, Tile and Stone Samples

Wallcovering Books and Memos

Glass and Metal Samples

Three Ring Binders

Paper Sample Books

Stock Photo Books

Mat board and Foam Core

The Nashville chapter recently invited the community to choose from a variety of materials. I am so glad I was able to attend. I scored lots of fabric and some wall paper.

Have I mentioned I scored a ton of fabric? And we all know how expensive fabric is.

I even found fabric that resembles my dog Teddy. What do  you think? Maybe I’ll make him his own pillow cover.

Here’s how I upcycled the leftover fabric.

I made several envelope-style pillow covers with this tutorial.

Such a great cause! I love the doggie fabric, it does look just like your pup! Thank you for sharing at the Merry Monday Link Party!

Hi Amy! Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I agree, the program is awesome. I wish other industries would do the same, such as contractors, painters, etc. I am sure they end up with tons of leftover wood, materials, and paint.
